We went to Sway Thai tonight. I had a delicious Thai iced tea which had a hint of chai in it, one of the best I’ve ever had. We started with fried brisket dumplings and steamed chicken and mushroom dumplings with a chili crunch. The brisket was extremely tender and the chicken mushroom dumplings had a nice kick with the chili.
My girlfriend had the chicken pad thai which was some of the most flavorful noodles around, but the chili flakes on top may have done her in (next time she’s ordering without those) and I got their signature dish, the “son in-law” which is pork shoulder over rice with a fried runny egg with the fried garlic flakes on top. One of the best dishes I’ve had in Austin so far.
For dessert, we tried the condensed milk ice cream, which tasted more tart than sweet, interesting if you’re going for a more complex ice cream flavor. We also tried the sweet potato (purple yam and orange sweet potato) donut holes, which were also one of the most unusual desserts we’ve ever had. Also not sweet enough to fulfill a sweettooth’s desire, but certainly one of the most original desserts I’ve ever had.
Definitely would go back and try the fried rice and some of their double fried chicken wings which we saw on pretty much every other table. Service was very good and vibes were immaculate. 9/10 overall
Food is always delicious! You can taste that umami flavor in each bite of every plate. We've been coming here for six years and we always leave so satisfied! I highly recommend it for any occasion, especially if you're trying to impress a special someone!
Not your traditional Thai restaurant. Different but delicious. Portion sizes are smaller than expected and this is a bit expensive for what you get. Flavors are great, proportions of meat to other ingredients a bit low. Ambiance fabulous yet a little awkward sitting with other parties at the same table. Upstairs we think is reserved seating only but has couches and low tables for a different vibe and great views with the large 2nd floor windows.
Really bad restaurant for food. Great for vibes and drinks as it was good cozy setting. But food is below average. I atleast expect green curry to be perfect at a high end Thai restaurant. Do not go for food at all.
I liked their steamed vegetable dumplings appetizer, a lot. I definitely recommend that.
The papaya salad was also good. The green curry we ordered for the main course was a bit spicy for medium spicy. The dessert menu was not on the main menu, but we did ask the waitress and she brought us a special menu card for the dessert. I don’t remember the name of the desert, but it was very good. I recommend this place.
Been to the old location a while ago with a group of fellow Thai friends. The food was really good and I still remember how much we loved the Son in Law. I enjoyed the unique perspective that Sway brought to our Thai dishes, it's far from authentic yet very delicious.
Today I ordered the son in law again for takeout but this time the meat was too cooked to the point that it's hard and dry. The egg was not runny, unlike the last time. The portion also seems smaller. Might give this place another try hoping it won't disappoint me again.
Upscale Thai restaurant! I brought my husband here for his birthday and he loved it!! It has a great vibe, I am all about views of the city, drinks were 10/10 and of course the food was delicious!
To start, we got the crispy chicken skin and salt n pepper calamari. The crispy chicken skin was delicious and flavorful. I liked the calamari, but would prefer for it to be as crispy as the chicken. We also enjoyed their happy hour cocktails. For the mains, we had the son in law and the curry mussels. Both entrees were AMAZING. The flavor profile of both were out of this world. The son in law is smokey and sweet while the curry mussels were light, sour, and savory. Would highly recommend this place.
